Kilbreth Foundation Funds Trip To Portland to Coast Relay


Former Spartanburg High coaches Eileen and Jim Kilbreth, now at Summerville High, are heading to Portland, Ore. for the Portland to Coast Relay Race.

The event takes place Aug. 25.

The Kilbreth's mentioned, "We have been in the Portland to Coast Relay five times now."

The relay starts in downtown Portland and is limited to 50 teams. The event covers legs 13 through 36 of the Hood to Coast.

The trip, fully funded by the Kilbreth Foundation, is managed by Bob Nicolls.

The costs covered include airline tickets for 16 people, hotel rooms, van rentals, gasoline, and all meals.

Along with competing in the relay, the group will visit University of Oregon and Hayward Field, along with Nike Corporate headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

As for the adjusting to being coaches at Summerville, the Kilbreths mentioned, "We have adjusted to kids hungry for success. Two weeks after we arrived, they honored us with a dinner party at our assistant coach's house. They all have made a habit of showing up for summer morning practice."
