Riverside girls missed the team title by eight points in the Disney Classic elite race, the Maleficent, to Lake Braddock (Va.). Lake Braddock averaged 18:56 and Riverside 19:07.

Sophomore Cate Ambrose led the team with a sixth place finish (18:44). Teammate Ashley Fallow was eighth in 18 minutes, 49 seconds.

“It was really hot and humid. I forgot how quick it goes from cool to steaming,” said Riverside coach Eric Cummings. “The girls went out very fast and it cost them in the second mile. Overall I knew they were disappointed, but this will be motivation heading into region, county and state.”
Greer Middle College’s Micah WIlliams finished first in the Peter Pan boys 5K in 16 minutes. The second finisher was 32 seconds behind Williams. Greer Middle College finished second to Hebron Christian (Ga.), losing the team title by two points, 93-95.
Riverside’s Kyle Mook and Neel Taber finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Captain Hook 5K. Mook finished in 17 minutes, 4.98 seconds and Taber fourth in 17 minutes, 6 seconds. The team finished second with 65 points to Marvin Ridge’s (N.C.) 61.
“Kyle Mook and Neel Taber ran great races,” said Cummings. “Kyle held of Neel for the broken medal and Mickey Trophy. The boys team was in the team competition with Marvin Ridge and each of the boys ran great.”
Greer Middle College’s Aysia Cooper and teammates Tori Cooper and Tabi Robinson finished in the top 10 of the girls Pocahontas 5K. The team finished second with 52 points.
Waccamaw’s Price Rowland finished ninth in the Hercules boys 5K to lead the team to third place finish.
Ridge View senior Kelsey Ballou finished fifth in the Queen of Hearts 5K (20:43).
Will Kennedy led Riverside to the team title (40) in the Shere Khan boys 5K with a team average of 18:26. Kennedy ran to a third-place time of 17 minutes, 
59 seconds and teammate Joe Gunst was fifth (18:19).
Amelia Jones of Waccamaw finished 14th in the Jasmine 5K to lead the team to a top five finish with 187 points.
Waccamaw boys finished fifth as a team in the Robin Hood 5K with 185 points and team average of 18:20.
Riverside girls finished second in the Lady Tremain 5K with 39 points, four points behind winner Brentsville District (Va.). Natalie Williams was first for the Warriors with a third place finish, with three teammates in the top 10.
Riverside’s Dillon Young (11:25) led the team to a fourth place team finish in the Buzz Lightyear 3200.
Anna Yang of Riverside finished ninth in the Ariel 3200 with a time of 12 minutes 58 seconds. Waccamaw girls finished sixth in team scores.
“This was a great experience for all the runners,” Cummings said. “We placed in the top two of each of the high school races. Disney told us that was a first for a high school team in the history of their event. When asked to put the girls into the elite race we responded that we would have gone 1-6 in the Class AAA or AAAA race and we made the right call from a competition level and from the standpoint of our year-long goals for the girls.”
Cummings told scrunners.com the team ended up with 110 people racing or watching this weekend.
