1984 Olympic women marathon gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson is attending the S.C.S.D.B. Eye Opener in September.
Samuelson won the 1979 and 1983 Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon in 1985. Samuelson’s time (2:21.21) in the Chicago Marathon was the American record for 18 years.
Samuelson is scheduled to speak Friday night at Spartanburg Day School. Admission is free to the speech Friday night and starts at 6 p.m.
Samuelson is expected to attend the meet Saturday.
