Independentmail.com: Westside thrower Raivyn Chancellor dealing with disappointment

Eleven months ago, Raivyn Chancellor won the Class AAAA discus state title two days after suffering a spider bite near her left eye. Her coach at Westside, Milt Glover, hinted that Chancellor could have won both the discus title, and the shot put, if not for the spider.

This year, Chancellor, a senior, won’t get a chance to defend her championship — or add a shot put crown — despite turning in her best distances at the end of her senior season.

Chancellor and Westside’s season will end this weekend at the Taco Bell Invitational at Spring Valley because the track and field team violated preseason practice rules in February and had its appeal turned down by the S.C. High School League. The punishment is the school is barred from participating at any of the postseason meets and must pay a $500 fine.
