Greer's Coen Roberts continues family tradition

How did you get involved in the sport and why?
My sister ran cross country and track in high school and I thought it was pretty neat.

Did you perform as you expected at Eye Opener?
I did better than expected at the Eye Opener since it's a pretty tough course and early in the season.

What confidence does this give you for rest of the season?
I'm hopeful for region and state this year and expect to run faster before state.

My older brother also runs for Greer, and my dad coaches cross country and track at Greer also.

What roles do you have on the team this year?
Coach doesn't assign official captains, but Houston Osborne and me lead the warm up and drills and make sure the team is well behaved.

Do you have any post cross country meets plans?
I have ran Foot Locker the past few years and plan to return this year.

Do you have any specific race strategies that work best for you?
I enjoy going out quick for the first mile and settle in until it's time to pick up the pace at the finish.

What do you enjoy about the team and being on the course with them daily?
I enjoy all the personalities. I have lots of different unique teammates, some are funny, silent, and crazy.

What plans do you have for the future?
I plan to finish well at region and state individually and team wise.

Are you looking to run at a college?
I plan to continue running through college, hopefully I will be able to run my whole life.

Do you remember your first race?
Yes, it was in the winter of 2009. I wore baggy sweatpants that I had to hold up for the entire 5K.

How did summer training go?
Summer training went well. I ran more miles than any previous summer without any setbacks.

Do you have a specific reason to achieve a goal or goals this season?
Last year I did not place as well at state as I hoped, this year I want to improve my placement overall.

What do you enjoy the most about being part of the Greer team?
I like my coach and hanging out with my teammates outside practice.

What helps you stay focused during practices and races?
I just focus on finishing the task at hand.

What responsibility do you feel you have to your teammates? Please explain

I feel like I have to run my best so that we make it to state as a team every year.

Do you have a pre-race tradition? Please explain.
I always pour a bottle of water on my hair regardless of temperature.

How do you balance academics, athletics and other responsibilities?
Academics always come first.

What challenges or injuries have you encountered in the sport? How did you stay motivated during this time?
None.

If there is one thing in the world you could do, what would it be and why

I would like to compete in the Olympics and complete the Appalachian Trail.
