Stratford graduate Brittany Jefferson, injured in an accident in May, left home this weekend to prepare for classes on Wednesday at Limestone College, Jefferson's mother Melanie said in an e-mail to scrunners.com.
"Brittany was discharged from the trauma surgeon on Aug. 12," said Melanie. "Also she followed up with the orthopedic doctors on Aug. 13, and was told that her pelvic was completely healed, and that she no longer has to use the walker. Once again Brittany has escaped therapy, she does not have to have outpatient therapy, TO GOD BE THE GLORY, Brittany will be leaving this weekend to start Limestone College."
Jefferson will medical redshirt her freshman year, Melanie told scrunners.
"Brittany did move in on Friday (Aug. 15) and it went really well," said Limestone coach Kevin Vees. "Her aunt and uncle brought her and the faculty and staff got her through the entire checkin process. Our athletic trainers will be working with her on a daily basis but the doctors did not give her a specific rehab program.
"She just needs to get strong and put about 40-pounds on her. She has made a ton of friends and has adapted very well. I spent all day with her and we also did some rehabilitation together (so that I know what she is doing). "
Jefferson, the 2008 Class AAAA state champion in 100-meter hurdles, was involved in a serious accident May 18 in Charleston.
"Please continue to pray for Brittany's healing of her abdomen which is closed but still has to heal from the inside out, FEAR GOD STRIVE TO LIVE RIGHT," said Melanie.
