Clemson track assistant Glenn McAtee leaves position

Clemson assistant track and field coach Glenn McAtee announced today in an e-mail he will no longer coach at the university.

"Effective immediately, I will no longer be coaching at Clemson," said McAtee.

McAtee coached at Clemson for the past six years and is USATF Level III certified in the throwing events.

"I am going to try to remain involved, but I will make my living from something else," said McAtee. "I do lots of coaching education stuff, and I think that will be my 'outlet.'"

Lawrence Johnson was named Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Clemson, the athletic department announced July 30 following the retirement of men's coach Bob Pollock. Johnson comes to Clemson after serving as an assistant for four years with Virginia Tech.

"Glenn was released," said Philip Sikes of Clemson's media relations office.  "Coach (Lawrence) Johnson informed me of the decision a few days ago, and he will be publicizing an announcement on Clemson University's Web site and probably with the NCAA in the coming days about an open position."
