What does it mean to be named to the Shrine Bowl Run team and helping the hospital?
It is quite an honor and has been a goal of mine since I was a freshman. It's such a great organization that helps a lot of children and proud to be a part of it.
What did you hear about the Shrine Bowl Run before this year?
Several of my former teammates have participated in the run and I have gone out to cheer them on. I'm excited to be on the other side this year.
What do you hope to experience during the event?
Personally, I believe it will be a lot of fun and gives me a chance to bring exposure to an organization that does so many great things for our children in this community.
How are you preparing to run with a football?
As for the running, I believe that I have that part down pretty well but I am a three year veteran of Riverside powder puff football team so I think I'll be okay.
How would you rate your senior season?
It's one of the best ever and I have achieved most of my season goals. Now the team is focused on the post season and Nike nationals. Hopefully a trip to Oregon is in our future.
What future goals do you have?
Obviously in the short term is to compete at the national level at Nike and to have a great track season. I'm continuing my running career next year at the College of Charleston and would love to compete at the NCAA finals one day!
Have you made the decision to compete at the next level? Please explain.
I am excited to have accepted an offer to run for the College of Charleston.
How did you get involved with the sport and when?
I started running as a freshman, up to that point I was a competitive swimmer, some friends were interested in the cross country team so I joined them one day during summer practice. The team had something special about it so I walked away from swimming and started to run.
Do you have any relation or know someone that has attended the Shriners Hospital?
Yes, my cousin has been a patient at the Shriners Hospital and having that little connection is cool. The Shriners organization helps so many and I feel fortunate to play a small part in it.
How have you seen the sport change in the state? Please explain.
I think that it gets more competitive each year and it keeps growing in popularity. It's been fun to watch it grow.
What was your motivation for your final XC season?
My primary goal was to evolve as a runner. I wanted to go out on a good note. I've really learned so much about running over the years and it really has just made me love the sport more and more every day.
