Mallard Creek were the favorites coming in after taking 2nd in this event at the indoor state championships.  The gun went off and as everyone broke Mallard Creek's lead off leg fumbled the baton out into lane 6 and immediately was in last with a lot of ground to break up.  With a strong field it seemed like the Mavericks wouldn't be in contention.  Tyree was able to catch the field and hand off in 4th with a split of about 2:04.  Certainly not what they wanted from their 1:54 800 runner, but Tyree dealt with the situation well.  He handed off to Austin Atkinson as he and Daquan Wallace head onto the lead group over the 2nd and 3rd legs.

Anthony Williams got the baton on anchor just a little bit behind Myers Park.  But Williams was patient and waited until the last 200 to make his move.  He passed Myers Park's anchor and was able to hold on down the homestretch running an NC#2 mark of 8:06.69!  With Tyree having a split 10 seconds slower than his 1:54 PR, it's safe to assume the Maverick's are well capable of running a sub 8 mark this season.  Myers Park ran an NC#3 mark in 2nd of 8:07.72
