Stadium construction at Spring Valley causes state meet venue change

Spring Valley High School's recent construction announcement on Harry Parone Stadium has caused the location for the Class AAAA qualifier and State Championships to change, Spring Valley coach Rick Crumpler told coaches in an e-mail distributed via the South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Vikings hosted the state meet since 2000.

A new venue has not been chosen.

"Due to recently announced renovations to Harry Parone Stadium that will begin in April, Spring Valley High School will not be able to host the state track or Class AAAA qualifer," Crumpler said in an e-mail. "The (South Carolina) High School League has been notified as well as Danny Brooks, president of the track and cross country coaches association."

Spring Valley athletic director Tim Hunter told scrunners.com in an e-mail the construction on the stadium includes new entrances, new seating, new press box, new bathrooms, new concessions, new locker rooms and then a new track.

Crumpler also mentioned the league has informed athletic directors in the state.

"If anyone is interested in hosting these meets, then the school should notify the high school league as soon as possible," said Crumpler. "We all need to know the location of these meets as soon as possible."

The state meet is scheduled for May 15-16 and Class AAAA qualifier on May 9.

Spring Valley is also the site for the Taco Bell Classic.  "Construction is not scheduled to begin until
after Taco Bell," Crumpler told scrunners.com.

More details coming as available and time permits.
