Mud run journal: Mauldin's Tyler Pommerenke

Submitted by Tyler Pommerenke

This was my first year doing the St. Francis mud run and it was definitely the funnest race I’ve ever done. The weather was awesome, turnout couldn’t be better, and the difficulty perfect. They made each team start a minute behind the other team to keep the obstacles from crowding up. There were also many divisions of teams to split the competitive teams from the teams that are more for fun than for racing. This race couldn’t be better.

The obstacles varied from jumping over walls, crawling in mud, and lifting heavy tires. The majority of the course was trail running with an obstacle around every 50 to 100 feet. Almost every obstacle required some amount of teamwork which is a valuable thing to learn. My favorite part was running through the stream because its when everyone really starts to get into the race. The end ou had to pick up one of your team members and run 30 or 40 feet to finish line.It was the perfect way to end the race. They had an awesome selection of obstacles at this race.

My team was some of my friends from our cross country team in Mauldin. It was a great selection because we were all in about the same shape and speed throughout the race. We already made our choice to do this next year during the race. I hope we will be able to carry through on our plans because this was a great experience.
