Daniel alumna Laurie Barton took the lead from the gun in the women's 1K on Friday night and never looked back, as the redshirt-senior from Clemson set a new school record of 2:42.51 at the Hokie Invitational.
Where does it rank?
Barton's time places her in a tie for 12th on the collegiate all-time indoor list and makes her the third-fastest woman ever from the ACC.
Clemson's previous record for the women's 1K was 2:43.03 set by Natoya Goule in 2015. Later that season, Goule would go on to capture the NCAA Indoor 800-meter title, setting the school record in the event by running 2:01.64.
"She [Laurie] hit her splits and she finished so strong, and to break a school record previously held by an NCAA Champion and Olympian [was special]," said Director of Track & Field Mark Elliott. "She is a pleasure to coach!"
