scrunners.com will become a subscription Web site starting in 2010, scrunners.com Managing Editor John Olson announced Sunday.

"Becoming a subscription Web site will help us continue and enhance our coverage of high school cross country and track and field in South Carolina. Our purpose from the start has been to increase coverage each year," Olson said in a statement. "While we know times are tough for all families we hope people understand the expenses and time spent managing a Web site and that we are doing this for the sports."

Olson also hopes to help give back to the sport with helping to sponsor events in the future. "One of my hopes in the next five years is to have a middle school state cross country meet and move to track and field from there," Olson said. "I have been in discussion with officials in the state to see how we can accomplish this."

The cost for subscription for 2010 is $36 per year, payable online via paypal or via check. Upon receipt of payment subscription access will be granted throughout a MileSplit.us user name. The link for online payment via paypal will be posted in the next 14 days.

"We will continue to leave results received open to everyone," Olson said. "We believe results are public information and it is important for us to have results available for everyone. We are  constantly working to improve our results database with more historical data from the start of cross country and track and field in South Carolina." Olson emphasized subscription funds received, in which 100-percent currently remains in the state, will help to attract others to assist in preparing the historical content for the Web site.

"I am already working to line up an intern for the 2010 track and field season," Olson said. "This position is the start of being able to produce more feature stories and help with other daily Web site maintenance."

A subscription raffle of some kind will be given to one male and female high school cross country or track and field athlete that is a member of an instate high school for the first year. Details will be posted as soon as available, Olson said.

Subscription items include rankings, athlete profiles, feature stories, videos (may include live video) and staff and freelance photo galleries. Subscription items are subject to change.
