Here's a look at some of the top storylines heading into the event.
Girls 800m should be a fight to the finish
Look no further than this event for action and suspense. This year's field is crammed with talent. A pair of favorites are Apex (Apex, N.C) and Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh, N.C.) freshman Hannah Rae Shaffer. Mitchell is the defending N.C. 4A state cross country champion and comes into the race seeded at 2:33. Shaffer was state runner-up and enters the race seeded at 2:13.
A trio of Cuthbertson (Waxhaw, N.C.) girls will be in the mix, led by sophomore Charlotte Bell. Myers Park (Charlotte, N.C.) junior Mary Bonner Dalton will also be a strong contender.
Blaha looking for 3200m
Pace Academy (Atlanta, Ga.) senior Edward Blaha is shaping up to be a strong contender to claim the 3200m race. Blaha, who is headed to Columbia University, is the Georgia 2A cross country state champion. He enters with a PR of 9:09.45.
A flash of light? The road runner himself? Or is it Brookland-Cayce senior Ian Myers? Myers has shown explosive times in the 100m all season long. His PR is 10.18 (wind-aided) set at the Clash of the Carolinas. Myers has consistently ran in the mid 10s range all year varying from 10.33 to 10.69.
Girls 4x800 record in trouble?
If there's a meet record in serious trouble, it's in the girls 4x800 relay. Cuthbertson High (Waxhaw, N.C.) is not looking to just break the record but shatter it. The current record belongs to T.C. Roberson (Asheville, N.C.) set in 2014 with a time of 9:16.93. Cuthbertson is currently ranked second in the nation with a time of 9:06.15.
The high jump will feature the nation's best. Cleveland High (N.C) senior Kyzaiah Stone will be competing in the event coming in with a personal record of 7-0.5 set at the Apex Lions Relays. Stone is committed to N.C. State for track and field.
Lowndes (Ga.) senior sprinter Kaniya Johnson is no stranger to South Carolina. The former White Knoll standout captured a state championship in the 100m with PR time of 11.53 last year. She will enter the same event this weekend sporting a season-best time of 11.63. Johnson is a Florida State commitment.
Boudreaux ready to Geaux
Cane Bay senior Jaylen Boudreaux has a chance to write his name in the record book. Boudreaux will be going after a pair of hurdles records in the 110 and 400m races. Boudreaux enters the 110m at 13.98 with the meet record at 13.80. He'll go into the 400m hurdles at 52.16 with the meet record at 52.01.
