Lexington's Tanner Graham Named 2022 USTFCCCA SC COY

"They are such a great group to work with in how well they get along and respect each other, yet challenge each other to get better every day. They make every day enjoyable and practices are the highlights of my day." - Tanner Graham

The USTFCCCA announced Lexington cross country coach Tanner Graham South Carolina cross country coach of the year. Read what he says about the honor inside.

Lexington won the Class AAAAA girls SCHSL 2022 cross country title with 62 points over Fort Mill (101). Kendra Miles placed third in the race with a time of 18:59 to lead the Wildcats.

"I am honored and humbled to be named the USTFCCCA Girls Coach of the Year for SC," said Graham. "The girls and my assistant coaches, John Bernhart and Dawn Keene deserve all the credit. They show up every day ready to put in the work and get better. They are such a great group to work with in how well they get along and respect each other, yet challenge each other to get better every day. They make every day enjoyable and practices are the highlights of my day."

The USTFCCCA named a total of 102 coaches -- one girls and one boys coach in each state and the District of Columbia -- to its list of awardees, selected by an expert committee.

Factors the committee took into consideration when selecting the year's top coaches included team performance over the course of the fall 2022 season, state championship performances, margin of victory, individual championships, performance in relation to rankings and team history.

Each winning coach will be in the running for the 2022 USTFCCCA National High School Cross Country Coach of the Year Award awarded next month, an honor given to one girls and one boys coach.
