Races to Watch at 2023 Frank Kleckner Invitational

The 2023 Frank Kleckner Invitational is the main invitational this Saturday in Simpsonville at Southside Christian. Here's five events to watch during the day with teams from all classifications entered. The meet starts at 10 a.m.


Girls distance

Heathwood Hall's Madelyn Gomez is making the trip from Columbia for the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races. Gomez has a 3,200 seed time of 10:55 and 5:06. Mann's Kennedy Roush is entered in the girls mile with a 5:07. Joining the four lap event is Greenville Hurricanes' Ava Lindsey (5:14). Other contenders in the 1,600 are Mary Frances Iseman and Reagan Cooke.

Four other entries in the girls 3,200 run have a sub-12 seed time.

Boys distance

Augusta Eagles' Warren Shepherd leads 1,600 entries with a 4:29. The boys 3,200 is also led by Warren (9:44) and two others with sub-10 seed times by Mann's Sean McAdams and Jamison Warren Hinds Jr.

Boys sprints

Three teams in the boys 4x100-meter relay are seeded 45 seconds or faster. The top seed and host Southside Christian leads the boys 4x400-meter relay entries. 

Girls sprints

The always exciting relays looks to be a battle in the 4x100 between Heathwood Hall and Pendleton. Don't count out Byrnes, Fountain Inn and J.L. Mann.

Other events to watch

Girls 800-meter run, boys 800 (Mathew Rude, Trenton Frey and Ciaran Greer)).

Pendleton's Burdette McConnell leads the high jump with a mark of six feet, four inches. Four others are entered with a heigh of six feet. Jhnyia Knuckle of Mann leads girls triple jump (39-0) with Gabrielle David seeded second (37-7.5).
