Riverside senior Ty Jones was named the South Carolina Gatorade Boys Cross Country Player of the Year after the 2024 cross country season.
Jones, the first winner of the honor for Riverside, is attending Furman in the fall.
The senior Warrior won the 2024 SCHSL 5A Division 2 state title in 15 minutes, 54.19 seconds.
Jones is an active member of the St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Greenville. He has donated his time as part of the parish's Rise Against Hunger event. He has also fundraised on behalf of Pumpkin Patch, which supports faith-based service missions throughout the community.
Jones has maintained a weighted 4.26 GPA in the classroom.
Jones joins recent Gatorade South Carolina Boys Cross Country Players of the Year Jake Liebert (2023-24, Wando High School), Knox Young (2022-23, Greenville High School) and Sam Rich (2021-22 & 2020-21, Catawba Ridge High School), among the state's list of former award winners.
