Meet Heathwood Hall CC Runner Dorothy Hutchins

Heathwood Hall's Dorothy Hutchins talks with MileSplit SC before the Bob Jenkins SCTCCCA Coaches Classic and SCISA Championships.

How would you rate your season so far with a fifth place finish at Lake Murray, fourth at Mike Moore and 31st at Eye Opener?
Since coming off an injury, I feel that my season has been great so far. I am ready to get back to fully training.

How do you look at the ranking both individually and team and where you rank?
Using SC Milesplit helps me. I like seeing the competition and how everyone grows throughout their season. It drives me to perform better. I love to see how our team is growing and I love seeing how much competition our team brings to each meet.

What goals do you have for the rest of this cross country season?
I definitely want to get back to where I was before my injury. Ideally, at State I will be able to set a new PR.

What has been your biggest challenge as a runner?
I broke my third metatarsal due to a fall.  This put me out of running for six months. Fortunately, my Mom knew about cross training and really helped me through the healing process. Getting back to racing is mentally challenging, running is very mental.

What races do you look forward to the rest of the season?
I look forward to the Coaches Classic, although it is not the fastest course, it is a course that shows both mental and physical strength. I always look forward to the State Meet at Heathwood. THe Heathwood community really supports the team and we all perform great with that support.

What is your motivation for now and the future?
I am a competitor.  I love doing it.
