As the indoor season draws to a close, teams are preparing for their respective indoor conference meets. These teams have prepared for these meets all season long; it is the pinnacle of the season.
First up is the 2005 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship February 17-19 held at the University of North Carolina. The ACC, Atlantic Coast Conference, consists of Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Right now, Miami's girl's team is ranked 4th in the nation in the latest Trackwire 25 posting. Georgia Tech is ranked 17th and Florida State is in an 11-way tie for 21st place. On the guys side, Florida State is ranked 9th and Virginia Tech is ranked 22nd.
The same weekend, The Big South Conference is having their meet in Blacksburg, Virginia at the Hokie indoor track. Big South Schools include Winthrop, Charleston Southern University, Coastal Carolina University, Birmingham South University, High Point University, Radford University, UNC Asheville, and Virginia Military Institute. Right now, Liberty University's Men's Team has 32 possible scoring athletes/relays, top 8 places, according to Direct Athletics website. Following them is VMI with 27 possible places. These places are ranked by time, length, or height. On the Women's side, Liberty University leads with 35 possible scorings athletes/relays, but followed closely by Coastal Carolina with 30.
The following weekend, Feb. 25-26, the So-Con, Southern Conference, is having their indoor track and field at East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tennessee. This conference includes College of Charleston, The Citadel, Appalachian State, Davidson College, East Tennessee State, Elon, Furman, Georgia Southern, UNC Greensboro, Chattanooga, Western Carolina, and Wofford. Through the week of February 6th, Western Carolina Men's Team leads the power ranking pole with 237 points. App. State follows closely behind with 229 points. Following them, in a distant 3rd is East Tennessee State with only 57 points. Western Carolina's Female team also leads the ranking with 192 points. Again, App. state follows with 162 points, and Georgia Southern follows them with 83 points.
At the same time, the SEC men and women's indoor track and field championships will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center and John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Schools that compete in this meet are University of Alabama, University of Arkansas, Auburn, University of Florida, University of Georgia, University of Kentucky, University of Louisiana, University of Mississippi, University of Tennessee, University of South Carolina, and Vanderbilt University. This division also has top 25 rankings in both the boys and the girls. On the girls side, Florida is tied w/ Miami for 4th, USC is ranked 7th, Auburn is ranked 10th, and Georgia is also in the tie for 21st place. The guys team from Arkansas is ranked 1st in the nation, Florida is ranked 7th, Tennessee is ranked 11th, Auburn is ranked 15th and Mississippi is ranked 18th.
