scrunners: What kind of training was included in your summer training?
haughey: I mainly did a lot of mileage over the summer to build my base. I ran in Colorado for two weeks during our family vacation, which was a lot of fun (once I got semi-used to the altitude anyway). I also went to the Nike Smoky Mountain Running Camp for a week and had a great time there as well. Along with the mileage, I did a hill workout or fartlek every week.
scrunners: Did you have any goals going into summer training?
haughey: My goals going into my summer training were simply to stick to the schedule given to me by my coach and to build a good base. As the summer has progressed, I’ve gotten up to 50-53 miles a week.
scrunners: As a senior, how would you like to finish out your final cross country season?
haughey: Naturally, I’d like to go out of high school XC with a bang. My goals for this season include breaking 18 minutes (I’m aiming for the 17:40’s). I’m also going to aim for another state title, and I...
