College Weekend Recap - Sept. 24 - Bridges Captures Individual Title

The Citadel Invitational
Furman sophomore Page Bridges (St. Joseph's HS) finished first at The Citadel Invitational in 19:16.25. Paladin teammate Mo Campbell was second in 19:25.36. The Citadel's Megan Jenkins rounded out the top three placers. Furman sealed the women's D-I team title over host The Citadel 21-39.

The Furman men, led by Tyler Johnson (8k, 26:23.83), placed first in the team competition over The Citadel 23-38. William Wilson of The Citadel was second in 26:39.98. Furman's Eric Albrecht rounded out the top three in 26:53.22.

In D-II action Spartanburg Methodist's Tommy Hunt (Spartanburg HS) rounded out the top three in 28:13.37. SMC finished third out of five teams.

SMC's Jocelyn Veit (Brookland-Cayce HS) posted a top four D-II time of 19:50.76 at The Citadel Invitational in the women's event.

FMU Invitational
North Greenville College men and Lander University women captured team titles at the Francis Marion University Invitational Saturday morning.

Lander's Ivana Petrovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Greenwood Christian) captured the individual 5,000-meter title in 19:29 with Limestone's Alex Bonn placing second in 20:38. FMU freshman Kelly May rounded out the top three.

Lander scored 28 points in the 17th annual event with all the top five Bearcats placing in the top 10. Presbyterian College was second with North Greenville placing third in the team standings.

In the collegiate men's competition Presbyterian's Matthew Elliot (Green Sea Floyds HS) finished first over the 4.57-mile event in 24:42. Limestone's Brent Clausing was second in 25:33.

North Greenville defeated Presbyterian in the men's team competition with four runners among the top nine finishers, scoring 37 points.

USC to host SEC Championship
The University of South Carolina has been selected as the new site for the 2005 Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships. The event will be held at Fort Jackson's Hilton Field on Oct. 29.

The men's 8k event begins at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 6k starting at 10:30 a.m.

According to USCSports.com Louisiana State University was originally scheduled to host the event, but due to damage from Hurricane Katrina in the area, the conference had to select a new site for the championships.

The first time South Carolina hosted the championships was in 1997. The USC women finished 11th at the 2004 SEC meet, held in Fayetteville, Ark..

The SEC consists of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
