Dreher coach Daniel Brooks has been coaching track and field athletes for 30 years and helped dozens sign college scholarships, so when he says senior Christal Green ranks, "right there at the top," that is quite an accomplishment.
Green started running in middle school but her time was short lived. While running the 4x100-meter relay she collided with another leg on the handoff and hurt her knee, an injury that sidelined her during her freshman year and made her rethink competing in the sport.
"My knee hurt really bad and I didn’t want to come back after that, but one of my friends kept bugging me so I decided to come back and try again. My first year was my 10th grade year and I ran without any training and wasn’t that great, but I did end up making it to state with the 4x100 team. Brooks and coach Bennie Isaa said they always saw something in me and saw my potential."
