The deadline for entry in the 2011 USA Youth Championships is Tuesday at 11:59 p.m.
The meet is scheduled for July 28-July 3 at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
The first-year event for Myrtle Beach is expected to bring over 3,000 athletes to the Myrtle Beach area.
“We’re thrilled to see this event come to the Myrtle Beach area. The Grand Strand is an ideal location for the USATF to hold their World Youth Trials as we’re a family-friendly destination that is able to provide the athletes and their family members with plenty to do on and off the track and field,” said Mark Beale, sports sales manager for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB, in a statement.
The event is open to the public and tickets may be purchased at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium box office. Prices start at $8 for daily admission and competition takes place daily from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
During the first two days of the championships 16- and 17- year-olds that have met qualifying standards will participate in the World Youth Track and Field Trials. Winners of these events will be considered for selection to the 2011 USA World Youth Team and will leave Myrtle Beach immediately for the IAAF World Youth Championships in Lille, France.
Myrtle Beach is also site for the 2011 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships.
