Hayley Lyons' training journal: Week 13

Week 13

Note: I missed journaling about week 12 for my step-back week, but I was able to get in a long run of 13 miles and a total of 33 miles.

Intro:  This week, my long run increases to 16 miles.  I’m dealing with some major apartment repairs, so I probably won’t be able to write too much about each day’s workout.  There’s also a slight increase in the weekday workouts.

Monday: 4.5 miles.

Monday and Wednesday have been 4-mile days, but I’ve increased it to 4.5 for the next two weeks, at which point it will increase again to 5 miles.

Tuesday: 8 miles.

Tuesday and Friday have been 7 miles, but this week they increase to 8.  At this time last year, an 8-mile run would have been a long run for half-marathon training.   I felt accomplished after holding a solid, steady pace throughout today’s run.

Wednesday: 4.5 miles.

Thursday: Off.

Friday: 8 miles.

Saturday: 16 miles.

This is the longest run I’ve had so far.  At around mile 13, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it, so I had a Gu that I’d brought along just in case.  It’s taken me long enough, but I’m finally a believer in Gu.

Sunday: Off.

Total: 41 miles.

Conclusion: I’m having a little bit of foot pain after the 16 mile run, so I’ll probably take Monday as a slow-paced recovery day.  Next week, my long run increases to 17 miles.  I’m going to have to do it on Friday, though, because the Clemson-Carolina game is on Saturday!
