Form does not always hold true in track and field but certainly did this past Saturday as the Eastern Region put forth a dominating performance at the AAA championships at the GMU Fieldhouse. In a couple of early season meets in December, the CNU Showcase in Newport News and the Metro Run and Walk Invitational in Prince George's MD, teams from the Tidewater area sent an early season message with particularly strong showings.

A handful of Virginia teams including Deep Creek, West Springfield, Great Bridge, and Western Branch ventured south to compete at the Easter Challenge at the University of North Carolina\'s year old indoor track facility.

Many of the state\'s best performances were posted at Christopher Newport University\'s Winter Frolic. Last year\'s state champions in indoor and outdoor track Deep Creek boys dominated the meet as well as did their girl squads by winning both team titles.

Possible thunderstorms and lightning loomed in the distance throughout much of the day, but those storms never came as the Gus Lacy Track Classic was blessed with excellent race conditions as it gave way to many outstanding performances.
