In a five team meet at the Cheraw fish hatchery yesterday, GSSM senior Thomas Melanson, a National Merit semi-finalist, won the race with a course record of 16:46.55. Last month, he set the course record of 16:59 at a McBee meet so he now holds two of the course records in Chesterfield County. The number two/three runner for the GSSM Lady Eagles is Elizabeth Rhodes, also a National Merit semi-finalist. GSMM is the favorite to win the boys and girls' Region 3-A titles at that meet to be hosted by McBee on October 18.
