In only its 2nd year, The Furman Classic, run on the golf course at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, hosted over 20 large and small colleges from around the southeast as well as over 20 high schools from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Having lengthened the loop course to compensate for the questionably “short track” last year (but still maintaining the log and hay bale jumps), this year’s races were run in the haze and humidity that has become prevalent this time of year. Nevertheless, strong times were turned in by the leading runners. And the Georgia teams fared very well against some stiff Southeastern competition.
