Meet information

Spartanburg County Coaches please see following information As we prepare to host the Spartanburg County Cross Country Meet this Saturday at Dorman High School, we are faced with how to safely handle a 14 team race (28 teams counting boys and girls) and the spectators that will want to watch this event. We were left with several options that included having no spectators, limited spectators or spreading the race times out to effectively have two distinct races to allow for more spectators. We decided to go with the two races spread out so that spectators for the first race (girls) can watch and then clear out and spectators for the second race (boys) can come in later to watch the second race. This is the safest way in our opinion to be able to allow families to watch their children run while at the same time keeping the numbers down to a manageable level for the safety of all involved.

Here is the race schedule for Saturday: 7:30 am - Parking lot (grass lot next to Cavalier Stadium) opens for spectators of girls race 8:30 am - Girls race (begins behind the Dorman Freshman Campus Gym) 9:00 am to 9:30 am - Girls race completed - spectators leave the campus 9:45 am - Parking lot (grass lot next to Cavalier Stadium) opens for spectators of boys race 10:30 am - Boys race (begins behind the Dorman Freshman Campus Gym) Separate buses are recommended for girls and boys teams from each school or to allow athletes to travel with their parents.

Team buses will be parked in the Cavalier Stadium (football stadium) parking lot. Restrooms will be open in the stadium for participants to use once they arrive on campus. Restrooms will also be available in the Dorman Freshman Campus Gym Lobby but there will be a maximum of two people in a restroom at any one time. Team buses and spectators need to enter at the Main Dorman High School entrance off of Highway 221. Only people working the race or media members will be allowed to enter from the Dorman Freshman Campus entrance (next to the District Six Administrative office). The South Carolina High School League mandates that spectators wear a face mask at athletic events. Face masks and social distancing will be required at the starting line and finish line. There may be a limit of spectators allowed at the starting/finish lines if proper social distancing becomes impossible. That call will be made by the Dorman High School Administration and athletic trainers. There should be plenty of room throughout the course for spectators to be able to watch at various locations in a safe manner. Please get this information out to your athletes, coaches and parents. This is not the year for spectators to come and watch both races unless they have a child in each race. We also ask the coaches to not bring extra runners who won't be racing unless they are managers and have a specific role with the team on race day. Thank you for your understanding of these protocols for the County Meet. We feel it's the best way to allow for people to watch and support their children and for the safety of our teams, schools and communities.
