IMPORTANT MEET INFORMATION - PLEASE READ

Coaches, Athletes, Parents:

The 8th Annual Dorman Distance Carnival is two days away! We are looking forward to hosting you!

Attachments include a Meet Time Schedule and a Meet Preview w/ Meet Records.

We definitely want to have a safe, successful, and positive opening meet. To do that, we all need to work together.

Here are some important notes regarding Saturday, so please take a moment to review the information below. Coaches, please share with your athletes and parents.

START TIME

We have adjusted the start time of our high school races to begin at 10:30 a.m. We have several pre-meet activities that will take place prior.

HEAT SHEETS & TIME SCHEDULE

The heat sheets and a time schedule are posted on SCRunners. We will do our best to stay on schedule. If we are able to run events ahead of time, we will start up to 15 minutes early, except the 4x4 relays, which will start immediately following the Elite Mile races. This will accommodate athletes and teams who are traveling longer distances.

TEAM PACKETS

In your packet will be a team roster, team numbers, and safety pins. It will be the responsibility of each team's coach to distribute the correct numbers to athletes. Please review that carefully. We will NOT correct results because an athlete was given the wrong number. Substitutions are fine the day of, but again, we will NOT make those changes in the computer.

Athletes in the 400 only do not have a number since they are in lanes.

To help with this process PLEASE teach your kids how to find their number on the heat sheets, etc.

INDIVIDUAL ATHLETES

If you are an individual or unattached entrant, you will need to pick up your race number from the timing tent. 400m runners do not have a number because they are in lanes.

ADMISSION, CONCESSIONS, & T-SHIRTS

There will be a $5 admission for spectators.

Our concession stand will be open, fully stocked, and selling a variety of items. We will also have DDC t-shirts for sale with a very cool design. Short-sleeve shirts are $20 and long-sleeve shirts are $25. Our shirts tend to sell out each year. Since there is no team entry fee, the purchasing of any of these items greatly supports our ability to host this meet.

BUS PARKING & DROP-OFF

When you come in the main entrance to our school, drive until you see the baseball/softball fields...the track is just behind those fields. If you arrive before 9:00, team buses can drop off at the track and then park in the lot across from the softball field. Spectators will park in the lot across from the softball field. There are other events on campus, so if the lot is full, there will be parking lot attendants directing traffic.

RESULTS

CKET Timing is handling the results. There will be Live Results on SCRunners.

UNIFORMS

School uniforms are optional. In past years, it has been a mix. This is a "scrimmage" meet. With the morning cold, athletes will possibly need some layers. We just need their number visible on their front.

4x400 RELAY - We are not enforcing the uniform rule in the relay. However, it is very helpful if your anchor leg is wearing a school identifying singlet or t-shirt.

RULES

This meet is for the kids and it is a "practice meet." We are not looking to DQ kids but if there is a flagrant violation - interference, sportsmanship, profanity, running on the inside turn, etc. - we will make those decisions. Please spend some time today or tomorrow coaching your kids on proper behavior at a track meet. We are all on the same team when it comes to making our kids better young people.

Coaches...any help or assistance you can provide is appreciated!

TEAM CAMPS

Teams are welcome to spread out in the grass areas beyond lane 8, along the backstretch, all the way around to the 100 start line. Tents are fine in this area as long as they are several feet back from lane 8 and are secure (very important). The grass area behind the homestretch bleachers is also available for team camps. No tents in the stands please. The lower field, normally used for our field events, is available for team set-up as well. Because of all the rain, I encourage every team to have a big tarp you can put down in your team area.

The baseball and softball fields are off limits at all times. This includes the dugouts and batting cages. Coaches, please help with this by letting your team know about this area being off limits.

RESTROOMS

Restroom facilities are located in the concession stand building. We have also added several port-johns just outside the track on turn one for athletes and coaches to use...let your athletes know about these.

AWARDS

We will present a plaque to our Elite Mile and Elite 800 Champions. There are no awards in the other events...just the pride and satisfaction of competing against good competition! However, we do recognize each event winner near the finish line at the conclusion of each event.

VENDOR ROW

We will have Fleet Feet of Greenville with a mobile shop set up. They will be joined by representatives from New Balance, Asics, and Theragun. Cora Physical Therapy will also be set up in the same area. Our "Vendor Row" will be located just behind the home plate bleachers of the baseball field. Let your kids know.

NEARBY RESTAURANTS

Dorman H.S. is located at exit 28 off I-26. There are several restaurants located right at the exit - Bojangle's, Zaxby's, Subway, Burger King, and Arby's. If you go further up Hwy. 221 about another mile or so past the school, there is a Food Lion grocery store, Hardee's, Marco's, Uncle Berto's, and Grille 221.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This meet is defined as a scrimmage and does not count as a pre-season invitational.

  • We have a Mondo track surface. Only 1/4" pyramid spikes are allowed.

  • There will be a waterfall start for all races, except the 400 & 4x4 (3-turn stagger).

  • Please bring your own batons for the relay.

  • Only competing athletes and coaches should be on the field. We need to keep it to a minimum due to the saturated infield...thank you in advance for your help.

The weather looks good, let's roll into the 2023 outdoor track season!

Welcome to the 2023 Dorman Distance Carnival, which has turned into the "go to" early outdoor meet for distance runners in SC, NC, GA, and beyond!

This year's 8th edition of our event, promises to be our best and most competitive year!

Order of Events:

3200m Run - 5 entries per gender for each team

400m Dash - 2 entries per gender for each team

800m Run - 5 entries per gender for each team

Elite 800m - Qualifiers (top 12 entries in the 800 that are verifiable in MileSplit from '23 indoor or '22 outdoor seasons).

Middle School Mile Run - 4 entries per gender for each team (Grades 7 & 8)

Freshman Mile Run - 4 entries per gender for each team

HS Mile Run - 4 entries per gender for each team

Elite Mile Run - Qualifiers (top 20 entries in the HS Mile that are verifiable in MileSplit from '23 indoor or '22 outdoor seasons).

4 x 400m Relay - 2 squads per gender...3 turn stagger

Elite Mile Qualifying:

The top 20 entries entered in the HS Mile will be seeded into the Elite Mile, our marquee event.

Coaches...if you want an athlete to be considered for the Elite Mile, please enter your runners in the HS Mile and meet management will go through seeding to determine the Elite Mile field of 20.

Coaches & athletes, please don't request to use time trials, runs on Strava, etc. to qualify for the Elite Mile. ONLY VERIFIABLE TIMES in MileSplit for the 1600/Mile from the prior season ('22 outdoor or '23 indoor) will be used to determine the field for the Elite Mile.

Elite Mile entrants can enter "unattached" if their team is not attending. However, we ask that those runners obtain permission from their coach before entering.

All of our mile races will be a true mile, not a 1600.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am; a final time schedule will be posted once the meet is seeded. However, the time schedule is subject to change based on the number of entries for the meet as well as weather conditions. Once a time schedule is established, we will start events up to 10 minutes early, if we are able to...we will not start an event any earlier than that. Be aware that some of the "slower" heats could have a lot of entries.

All races will be girls followed by boys.

Teams from last year will be given priority to attend this year.

The entry deadline for scheduled teams is Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 12 noon!

There is no team or individual entry fee...it is totally free to enter. This meet is a "scrimmage", therefore it does not count as one of your pre-season invitationals.

School uniforms are not required so if you have not handed out uniforms prior to this meet it is perfectly fine. Our meet is low-key, but a highly competitive season opener...it's a lot of fun!

All athletes, except 400m competitors, will be assigned a race number. They should be pinned to the front of your singlet and clearly visible.

Team packets will have numbers and it will be the responsibility of the coach to hand out numbers to your athletes. Coaches will pick up packets from the timing tent.

Unattached competitors (unless a 400m entry) must also pick up their race number from the timing tent on the infield.

Facilities: 8-lane Mondo track...we will also be adding some portable restrooms (most likely near the tennis courts) to accommodate the large number of competing athletes. * We also have reserved the track facility for Monday, Feb. 20 as a potential "make-up" date...that could be possibly all heats or just some...hopefully we don't need to even make that decision.

There will be a $5 charge for spectators.

Meet t-shirts and concessions will be available. Please consider supporting these sales as it helps offset no team entry fee!

Please contact Meet Director Coach Urban via e-mail at: urbanb@spart6.org with questions.
