Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
I would consider myself my biggest competition over my four years. I always strived to focus on my own development and to improve my time every meet, regardless of place.
What was your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was to win the 400 hurdles at the Taco Bell meet. After coming in second by stutter stepping the second to last hurdle I was determined for a whole year to win and PR. My hard work, mental and physical preparation helped me to do that.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running/track and field career in high school?
Nothing, I am very pleased at the athletic growth I have made throughout the years.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The high school coach I had prior to my senior year.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss my teammates, other track athletes and the track meets.
What advice you would give to younger athletes?
1. Spend extra time learning about track and field.
2. Work beyond what you do at track practice if you want to be one of the best.
What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
My primary coach and influence has been my dad. He has greatly influenced my performance by learning different training techniques from many different coaches and resources and using those things to help me improve. Of course, having a close relationship on and off the track with my dad has helped shape my goals and perspective on life.|
What are your college plans?
I plan to obtain my masters degree and help Coastal Carolina to be a great track team.
Who would you like to say thank you to? I would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my high school track career. Especially to my parents, Yxsumi Simmons, my Grand mommy (Jannie Smith), Coach Will from the Charlotte Heat and Coach Herbert Glaze who was final piece to the puzzle that help me end my high school career the right way.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I would really like to say a special thanks to everyone who supported my trip to Central America. All the support I received was very humbling and I hope that someday I will be in a position to support and mentor young track athletes. I’m not done running yet, so keep on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers!
