Burke alumna Raven Saunders is one of eight individuals selected to the MileSplit All-American Team in the girls shot put from the 2014 outdoor season.
Girls shot put national record holder Raven Saunders tuned up in between competing in the U.S. Juniors last weekend and World Juniors in two weeks with the Burke graduate putting together an impressive series at in Illinois at the Chicagoland Throws with four marks over 50 feet.
Many of the top throwers in the country traveled to Chicago this weekend to compete in the Chicagoland Throwers Series, which has been a great post-season opportunity for the nation's elite in the shot, discus, javelin, and hammer. The National Scholastic Athletic Foundation helps many of these athletes fly in from all over the country to compete in the the event.
It wasn’t a cheap trip, but Raven Saunders really wanted to be here. She’d earned her place, setting a national high school record with a throw of 56 feet, 8 1/4 inches earlier this year. That was the easy part. (via The Register-Guard)
Burke graduate Raven Saunders continued her winning season by capturing the shot put title at the USATF Championships. Saunders had a best of 55 feet, 10.25 inches.

Saunders did not get too far into her outdoor season before setting the all-time best performance in US high school history for outdoor in the event. At the Taco Bell Classic on Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina, Saunders shattered the old rrecord by nearly two full feet with a incredible mark of 56'8".
