scrunners: How is college life treating you?
marcie: Pretty good, school is stressful, but I'm making it ok.

scrunners: What do you miss the most from home and high school running?
marcie: I miss running with my dad and my dog Jill in Hitchcock Woods and I miss the Sunday long runs with Jake (Morris)

scrunners: What are you planning on studying in college? What made you choose this area of study?
marcie: I think I want to major in Nursing. I have wanted to be a nurse for a while, but that could change.

scrunners: What has been the most challenging part of college life since the start about two months ago?
marcie: I think that biggest adjustment for me has been being away from my family.

scrunners: What kind of training did you do this summer?
marcie: I just mainly ran base mileage with some tempos (runs) and strides mixed in.

scrunners: How did your training change from high school running?
marcie: There was really very little change in my summer training.

scrunners: How many miles did you reach per week this summer?
marcie: I got up to 55 miles per week.

scrunners: What kind of training are you doing this part of the season?
marcie: Right now we are training pretty hard we normally have three workouts a week a tempo run, 400's and mile repeats.

scrunners: How was it do go to South Carolina for the Gamecock Invitational?
marcie: Well the meet was rather unorganized but it was nice to go to my home state and eat at my uncle's restaurant Villa Tronco. I was pleased with how I ran, all things considered.

scrunners: What meet have you enjoyed the most since college?
marcie: I would have to say the Gamecock invite just because I got to see family

scrunners: How do you think you will feel about going up against the best in the Southeast at the Regional meet that is close to the end of the season?
marcie: I think Coach (Brian) Baker knows what he is doing so I feel confident that I will be at my peak when I face the toughest competition (at Regionals).

scrunners: Who else in your family runs? How long have they run? Did anyone else run in college?
marcie: My dad and sister still run. My dad is training for the New York City Marathon and my sister runs with me at GWU. My brother Brantlee ran for Clemson, but now is playing club soccer and loving it We have all run for about 14 years.

scrunners: What meets are you preparing for?
marcie: The main focus right now is conference (Atlantic Sun) on Nov. 1 (host: Campbell University).

scrunners: What kind of goals have you set for your freshman year and also the other three years of college?
marcie: For my freshman year I would like to improve my stride and my core strength and then see where I go from there.

scrunners: What is the longest you have run this season?
marcie: The longest run has been 12 miles.

scrunners: Being with your twin sister at college, how is that, is it beneficial in the summer, to have her as a friend, sister, and training partner?
marcie: I like being with her but we do tend to drive each other crazy. Katherine (Warden) does her best to keep us straight up here at GWU and yes it is nice to have someone to run with over the summer.

scrunners: Who was your biggest rival in high school as an individual and team? When did this rival become most intense?
marcie: My biggest Rival in high school was South Aiken. I know that Amy (Laughlin) and Laura (Laughlin) are great runners who have a lot of talent but I knew if I ran to my potential that I could be up there with them. That's why it became my biggest rivalry.

scrunners: What kind of trainers and racers did you wear in high school? Do they vary during each sport, track and cross-country?
marcie: I ran in New Balance 714 and I raced in Adidas Neptune.

scrunners: What do you remember the most from high school as a student and as an athlete?
marcie: I remember all the races that I felt like I reached my potential and our 4X800 team my junior year.

scrunners: How many morning runs do you have per week and explain to us what a normal afternoon of practice consists of?
marcie: We run two or three miles in the morning and either a six mile run or workout in the afternoon with weights on some afternoons.

scrunners: What would you like to run during the indoor and outdoor track seasons?
marcie: I would like to stick to the 5,000m and 10,000m in outdoor. I'm not sure about indoor because I've never run indoor.

scrunners: Have you found a place to run compared to the trails you trained in while you were at home? What are the names of the trails at GWU and at home?
marcie: Yeah the Board River Greenway is nice for running here at GWU, but Hitchcock woods where I run at home is no comparison. I am completely spoiled.

scrunners: What makes you get out the door every day to keep training?
I have a great desire to reach my personal potential whatever that may be.

scrunners: What do you remember the most from your senior year at Aiken (running and non running)?
marcie: My best races were at Great American and Coaches Classic and Eye Opener during XC and in track at a dual meet against South Aiken in track when I set my mile personal record. Also when I went and ran the Myrtle Beach Marathon Relay with some of my teammates. We had a blast. Non-running, I would have to say just hanging out with friends and stuff because God blessed me with a great group of friends.

scrunners: Runners such as Sunday Ford, Kate Niehaus, Amy and Laura Laughlin, Sarah Binkley, and Ryan Jank are very strong in the state. With runners like the ones above, what do you see happening with South Carolina running? What do you believe needs to be improved with South Carolina running?
marcie: I think that runners such as those mentioned above are great for South Carolina running. You have to compete with the best to become the best and I think that these runners set a higher standard for the young runners in the state. These runners give South Carolina running a bright future. Good Luck to all of you.

scrunners: What kind of race tactic works best for you, a strategic race or an all out, guts race? Explain. How do you adapt the non-preferable event?
marcie: I really start out pretty slow but I'm working on starting faster and running a more gutsy race. We will see what works best for me.

scrunners: What kind of pre race tradition do you have? When does the tradition start and what does it consist of?
marcie: I normally run about two miles easy and then do some strides and then I pray to relax myself and to get my focus.

scrunners: What do you look for in a coach and what do you expect a coach to look for in you?
marcie: I want a coach to take a special interest in every athlete no matter what their ability because I think everyone should have the chance to reach their own potential (if they want to). I like a coach to discus things with me before and after the race and give me constructive criticism so that I can improve.

scrunners: If you could do one thing in the world, out of the ordinary, what would it be?
marcie: I'm not really sure I'll have to think about that one.
