Nike\'s Harris Qualifies For Athen\'s 400

South Carolina senior Otis Harris won the silver medal 400m at the US Olympic Track and Field Trials. He now joins South Carolina junior Lashinda Demus on the US Olympic team headed to the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Harris ran a time of 44.67 to Baylor's Jeremy Warnier who won with a time of 44.37. Harris did not run his senior year and runs for Nike.

Harris was fourth in the first heat of the semi-finals of the 400m and advanced to the finals with a time of 45.13. It is his first time to the finals of the US championships.

Former USC volunteer coach and Columbia (Spring Valley HS) native Monique Hennagan was third in her semi-final of the 400m, running a 50.59 to advance to Saturday's final. Hennagan, who now trains in Atlanta with Pauline Davis-Thompson, won her heat with a personal best of 50.31 prior to advancing to the semi-finals.

Coastal Carolina's Amber Campbell threw a best of 216'6" on her last attempt in the women's hammer throw finals to move her from sixth to third place at the U.S. Olympic Trials. The top three performers qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team, provided that the athlete has met the Olympic "A" Standard. Campbell is 11 inches off that mark and will compete in some sanctioned events before the Summer Olympics in hopes of reaching that standards and representing her country in Athens (coastal.edu).
