Greer Senior Leads Team To Title At Savage (Ill.) Invitational

Raye Lin Chappell, a senior at Greer High School led the Yellow Jackets to the Girls Varsity (Red) team title at the Patrick J. Savage Invitational in Skokie, Ill. on Oct. 2. Chappell finished in 19:03.3 over the three mile course to Glenbrook North\'s Anna Nowak second place finishing time of 19:05.7.

Greer sealed the win with 59 points to Evanston\'s second place point total of 62.

Danielle Franklin (11th), Taylor Hughes (13th), Julie Baldwin (14th), Stacia Streetman (20th) and Anita Casey (23rd) rounded out Greer\'s finisher\'s.

In 2003 Greer captured the 2003 3A State Cross Country title. Chappell finished fourth overall in the 2003 championships, helping the team to a low score of 49.

Next up in South Carolina is the Furman Invitational on Oct. 9. Furman University is hosting the South Conference Championships on Oct. 30. In 1999 and 2001 Furman hosted the NCAA D-I National Cross Country Championships.
