USATF State Junior Olympics: Six records fall on day one

MYRTLE BEACH -- Six records fell on day one of the USATF State Junior Olympics at Doug Shaw Stadium.

The meet is in its second year at the facility.

Day one results

Boys day one
Quinn Corrigin of Mt. Pleasant Track Club broke the bantam boys javelin record from 2009 (John Kuisel, 25.75-meters) with a best throw of 28.09-meters (92 feet, two inches).

Alvin Deveaux of Summerville Storm set a new youth boys javelin throw record of 44.60-meters (146 feet, four inches). The previous record (38.78-meters) was set by Dezmon Venning (Mt. Pleasant) in 2007.

James Jacobs of Classics Track Club set a new young men hammer throw record of 21.91-meters (71 feet, 10 inches). Andrew Harper of Palmetto Track and Field had the previous record of 18.10-meters, set in 2009.

Jonathan Hallman, competing unattached, set a new 3000-meter young men race walk record of 16 minuters, 8.17 seconds. Lance Glenn of Seneca Blazers held the previous record of 22 minutes, 26.45 seconds since 2009.

Girls day one
Sara Sweatt of Myrtle Beach set a new intermediate girls javelin throw of 33.03-meters (108 feet, four inches). Stephanie McCarroll of Spartanburg Panthers had the previous record of 28.40-meters since 2006.

Katherine Stewart of Palmetto Track Club set a new record of 27.31-meters (89 feet, seven inches) in the young women hammer throw. Brittnie Smith of Peak Performance held the record of 23.32-meters since 2008.

Action resumed this morning and concludes Sunday.
