Nine records fall on day two of USATF State Junior Olympics

MYRTLE BEACH -- Nine records fell during day two action of USATF State Junior Olympics at Doug Shaw Stadium.

Day two boys
Kron Ferrell of Summerville Storm ran a sub-bantam boys 100-meter dash new record of 14.65 seconds in the preliminaries. The previous record was held by Quincy Mitchell of Low Country Express since 2008.

Myrtle Beach's Kyle Watkins ran a new 400-meter dash sub-bantam boys record over one minutes, 12.26 seconds. The previous record was held by Allen Edmond since 2001.

Greenville's William Goolsby broke a two-year-old meet record in the sub-bantam boys 1500-meter run of five minutes, 43.03 seconds. Mt. Pleasant's Noah Spencer held the previous record of five minutes, 43.78 seconds.

Greenville's Jacquez Johnson ran 14.01 seconds in the 100-meter dash, besting the previous one-year-old record of 14.08 seconds, set by Matthew Atkins.

Greenville's Jame Aune set a new record of 28.56 seconds in the 200-meter dash bantam boys. Matthew Atkins had the previous record of 28.84 seconds.

Mt. Pleasant's Noah Spencer set a new 1500-meter run bantam boys record of five minutes, 6.74 seconds. Quick Striders' Reid Allison had the previous record of five minutes, 9.10 seconds since 2002.

Florence Track Club's 3200-meter relay team set a new record of 11 minutes, 19.48 seconds, besting a record of 11 minutes, 53.65 seconds from 2007 (Greenwood YMCA).

Day two girls
Madeline Aune of Rusty Shealy's Pole Vault  broke an nine-year old record in the youth girls pole vault. Aune cleared 2.80-meters (nine feet, 2.25 inches), besting the previous mark set in 2001 of 2.64-meters (Elizabeth Todd, Caroline Extreme).

Aune's club teammate Sandi Morris, attending North Carolina-Chapel Hill in the fall, now has two state records. Morris set a new high school state meet record in May and Saturday Morris cleared 3.80-meters (12 feet, 5.5 inches), besting her previous record from 2009 of 3.49-meters in the young women division. Angela Rummans (second) and Kimberleigh Riggs also bested the 2009 record. Morris won the event following a judges decision.
