In the past three years, there has been steady growth in XC in Chesterfield and Darlington counties (and thorough media coverage) as evidenced by these encouraging signs. Four girls' teams ranked in the top 20 in their respective classifications: Cheraw, Chesterfield, Darlington and GSSM. Five boys' teams ranked in the top 20 in their respective classifications: Cheraw, Central of Pageland (used results not posted on site), Darlington, GSSM and McBee Of course, one of the founding fathers of XC in the Palmetto State who got the ball rolling for harriers 38 years ago in this area and is still coaching, deserves the lion's share of the credit. Success begats success that generates media coverage that begats more success while broadening the athletic horizons of the local populace of aports fans.
