IMPORTANT MEET INFORMATION - Dorman Distance Carnival 2021
Coaches, Athletes, Parents:
The 6th Annual Dorman Distance Carnival is two days away! It will have been 344 days since an invitational high school track meet in SC and we are excited to all be a part of this special day! We want to have a safe, successful, and positive opening meet. To do that, we all need to work together.
It is a track meet during a pandemic, so please keep in mind that things are different this year!
Our showcase event, the Elite Mile, promises a lot of excitement! We have several girls entered who have run under 5:20 in the past, including Emily Arenas who has already run 5:07 indoors this year! Last year we watched Ava Dobson go under 5 by herself and it was very exciting. On the boys' side, we have two entrants, Noah Ward and Sam Rich, who have run under 4:20 in the past. Additionally, we have Saxon Brown who has run a 1:53 800. These will be races you don't want to miss! To quote the movie, Field of Dreams..."If you build it, they will come." Let's race!
Here are some important notes regarding Saturday, so please take a moment to review the information below. Coaches, please share with your athletes and parents.
The meet will now begin at 11:00 a.m. to allow the weather to warm up a bit.
A time schedule is included. We will do our best to stay on schedule. If we are able to run events ahead of time, we will start no more than 15 minutes early, except the 4x4 relays, which will start immediately following the Elite Mile races. This will accommodate athletes and teams who are traveling longer distances.
In your packet will be a team roster, team numbers, and safety pins. It will be the responsibility of each team's coach to distribute the correct numbers to athletes. Please review that carefully. We will NOT correct results because an athlete was given the wrong number. Substitutions are fine the day of, but again, we will NOT make those changes in the computer. If we have names or schools incorrect, we will make those changes through noon on Friday.
Note from CKET Timing Company/Matt Feiling: "Coaches...we are happy to be able to serve you all again this season. Due to current Covid restrictions...a lot more meets are going to have bib numbers/utilize that number. It is very important that these are given to the correct athletes this season/no trades/no mix-ups. To help with this process PLEASE teach your kids how to find their number on the meet programs, scrunners, etc. For example, any dual meet I will be at, I will be sending the rosters beforehand, and it'll be up to the coaches to give their kids/write the number on the forearms before the meet. If you have any questions, you can email me at email@example.com and I will set up a call. Thank you all for everything you do!"
Athletes will be asked to wear a mask and social distance when they are not competing and warming up/cooling down in the event area. Coaches should also wear a mask and social distance.
There will be a $5 admission for spectators. It will be first come, first served. Temperatures will be taken before entering our spring sports complex. Spectators are asked to wear a mask and social distance from those outside their family. Each set of bleachers will have an Event Staff member who is responsible for checking for mask wearing and social distancing. Our school administration will be in consultation with the Event Staff member to determine when the bleacher seating area has reached capacity. At that time, no new spectators will be allowed into the bleachers until other spectators leave the bleachers. Seating is limited...spectators may want to bring their own chair to spread out around the track perimeter.
We need everyone to follow our Covid protocols to make our event safe. I am prepared to stop the meet, if needed.
We had to reduce our heat sizes because of Covid. I realize that some coaches will not be pleased with seeding decisions. Please keep in mind that the safety of everyone is the priority. We have done our best.
When you come in the main entrance to our school, drive until you see the baseball/softball fields...park in that lot and walk down to the admissions gate. Buses can drop teams off at the track and then park in the lot across from the softball field.
CKET Timing is handling the results. They will be posted on SC MileSplit.
School uniforms are optional. In past years, it has been a mix. This is a "scrimmage" meet. With the morning cold, athletes will need to have some layers, gloves, hats, etc. We just need their number visible on their front. My own athletes will not be in uniform.
This meet is defined as a scrimmage and counts as one of two that your team is allowed before the regular season. It is a glorified practice.
Our concession stand will be open, fully stocked, and selling a variety of items. We will also have DDC t-shirts for sale. Since there is no team entry fee, the purchasing of these items helps support our program.
We have a Mondo track surface. Only " pyramid spikes are allowed.
Bring your own batons and sanitizer for the relays. You may also want to bring extra masks available for your athletes.
Only competing athletes and coaches should be on the field.
Teams are encouraged to spread out in the grass areas around the track. The lower field, normally used for our field events, is available for team set-up. The baseball and softball fields are off limits at all times.
There are no awards...just the pride and satisfaction of competing is earned.
The order of events will be:
800m (1 turn staggered start, 2 athletes in a lane)
Elite Mile (a true 1 mile)
4x400m Relay (Sprinters - 3 turn stagger)
