St. Joseph's girls win first county title

SIMPSONVILLE -- St. Joseph's girls made school history today at the Greenville County Championships.

The Knights, one week out from the SCISA Championships, won the girls team title at Heritage Park. The Knights finished with 56 points to Mauldin's 72. (Watch a video interview with St. Joseph's coach Marie Kernell).

The Mavericks were defending champions going into the meet.

Riverside rounded out the top three.

Mauldin senior Alexa Neiling finished first in the girls varsity run in 18 minutes, 48 seconds. Woodmont's Aaron Ramirez set a new course record (15:55) enroute to the boys county individual title.

Wade Hampton boys defended their team title with 72 points ahead of Mauldin with 80. Mann rounded out the top three.

The top 10 in each varsity race are named all county.

Other county meets that were held today are the Tri-County and Spartanburg County Championships.
