The disappointment of not matching up against Emily Reese and Jackie Drouin might have had something to do with the amazing feat that Emily Borsare displayed at the Westminster Pent meet on Wednesday night. Borsare went 10:31.44 for a new all time bes tin Georgia. This is pure speculation but the fact remains that Borsare put on an amazing performance to top Reese\'s 10:39 mark set last season at the state meet. The stakes keep rising in Goergia distance running and another amazing athlete has served notice that she is to be included in any discussion of great Georgia runnres this season. Congratulations Emily on an amazing perfromance.

All eyes were on Cobb Co. last night as the Cobb Co. Championships wrapped up and the athletes in Cobb did not disappoint! In the most anticipated race of the night, Jay Hellers and Ben Hubers lined it up for the 3200, a race that became even more intriguing after the close 1600m race on Saturday. In a toe to toe battle for 8 laps, the surprising finish saw Hellers nip Hubers at the line in an impressive 9:11.41 to 9:11.43! Both marks qualified for the national elite rankings.

A classic match up between two outstanding runners was one of the many highlights from the 2006 Gwinnett County Championships this week as 95 elite perfromances were turned in over the course of the two days. The boys team title even came down to the last race and was decided by 18 hundredths of a second! One of the finest races for both boys and girls though was the 800m. Brittany Hall, from Meadowcreek and Jackie Drouin of Collins Hill hooked up in a battle of the ultra talents that lived up to its billing. Brittany won the race in a meet record time of 2:13.35 to Drouin\'s 2:14.43. Hall\'s accomplishment was even more amazing when one considers that an hour earlier she also broke the county 400m record in 56.05.
The Redan boys finished 1st and 2nd in several events to take the crown at the Dalton Rotary Relays on Saturday. Shaun Johnson led the way with a 14.75 in the 110m hurdles as Redan wins handily in a tune up for the Dekalb Co. Championships next week.
A cold and windy day at the Cobb County Championships did not prevent the stars from shining as 53 elite performances were turned in. The much anticipated match up between Ben Hubers of McEachern and Jay Heller of Walton saw Hubers lead from the gun to hold off Hellers 4:17.32 to 4:18.05. Both runners broke the old county record set by Ben Hubers last year. Miles Svoboda of Pope was able to hold off Brian Potts of McEachern for 3rd place by a mere 7 tenths of a second.

It was obvious from the moment the gun went off that Jackie Drouin was on a mission and like the post office, she delivered. In an amazing performance, Drouin went under 5:00 for the 1600 in cold, windy conditions to win in a runaway. Her mark broke the old mark of 5:09.9 set by Kathleen Turchin in 2003.
Entry lists for the Cobb Co. Championships have been posted on the meet page. With a plethora of elite performers, the Cobb Co. Championships should provide several exciting races. The race that seems to have garnered much of the attention is the boys 1600m, where Ben Hubers (4:12) will line up against Jay Heller from Walton (4:15), Stephen Arnold (4:23), Brian Potts (4:25.24), Corey Hunter (4:27) and Miles Svoboda (4:29). But that\'s not all that will be on display at this prestigious meet.
This meet features several heavyweight match ups. The following is an analysis of the top competitors in each field event.
Intra County battles take center stage this weekend with the Gwinnett Co. Championships 1st out of the blocks. 1800 athletes will compete over 2 days to decide who gets bragging rights for the year. On the girls side, Collins Hill is the overwhleming favorite with Nicole Okolo, Jackie Drouin and Maya Moore leading the way. On the boys side, performances are spread out pretty evenly and it\'s anybody\'s ballgame this weekend!
At the GACS Invitational this weekend, a young man by the name of Daniel Averso captured 1st place in the high jump, clearing a height of 6
This isn\'t a story about a track meet with national level competitors posting eye popping times. It\'s not about an athlete that broke a state or national record. North Gwinnett High School took the time last week to honor a man that has a lot to teach us all and that man is Gary Billion.

Lately, I have recieved qutie a few meet results submitted in adobe acrobat format (pdf). I cannot enter elite results from these meets into the database from this format and instead will have to attach the results to the meet page. They won\'t show up on the results menu as well so I need you to make sure that when you submit results, use the flat html setting to generate your reports. This will ensure that your athletes will receive proper recognition for thier performances. Thanks in advance for your help!
