Brittany Long capped off her excellent HS season with a 3rd place finish at the Nike Outdoor Nationals to earn All American honors. Her preliminary time of 11.65 earned her a spot in the finals just behind the much heralded Bianca Knight. Long followed up her stellar prelim run with an 11.71 in the finals to take 3rd place, an outstanding performance for the sophomore from Therrell.
Jennifer Barbi ran an impressive 18:07 to finish 6th in the 5000m at the Nike Outdoor Nationals to earn All American status on Thursday. Barbi, from South Forsyth High School and a rising senior, topped off an impressive junior campaign that saw her finish as the state runner up to Jackie Drouin in the 3200 with a season best 10:57.

Ben Hubers ran a state best 9:05.89 to take top honors in the 3200. The addition of mystery man Girma Mecoheso made this an interesting match up as Jay Heller and Ben Hubes have already put on a display earlier this season in the Cobb Co. Championships and the addition of a possible 3rd member of the group had everyone anticipating this race.

Cheek sets state record in AAAAA with 15\'7\" pole vault. Wes Wright goes 60\'7.75\" in shot for win in AAA. Machovec goes 58\'7.75\" in shot to win AAAAA. Cunningham from Franklin Co. goes 6\'10\" to win AAA High Jump.

The 2006 Girls state meet has come and gone, putting a cap on an amazing season for the ladies. Names like Long, Dacus, Vaughn, Castlin, Reese, Drouin, Hall, Borsare, Goodman and the accomplishments associated with those names will be a part of many a track conversation in years to come.

It was the first match up of the season for Emily Reese and Emily Borsare. Amazingly, these two girls did not meet on the track until the state 3200 finals and the results lived up to the hype. Emily Reese and Emily Borsare hooked up in a classic match up resulting in an amazing 10:33.34 to 10:33.37 victory for Reese of Chamblee!
St. Pius and Tucker battled down to the wire in Region 6-AAAA as the 4x400m once again provided all the drama one could ask for as St. Pius was able to preserve a slim l point lead going into the last event to take the title 129-125 over Tucker. Antonio McKay anchored his St. Pius team to a 3:20 win with a 47.0 anchor leg.

The rankings don\'t lie. Collins Hill put on qutie a show at the Region 7 meet on Tuesday as they blew past the competition winning by 111 points over 2nd place Norcross, 174 to 63. Nicole Okolo and Jacke Drouin led the way with stellar perfromances. Okolo advances to state in 4 events as she finished 1st in the 100 hurdles in a time of 14.25. She also won both the long and triple jumps with marks of 18\'3\" and 37\'1\" as well as anchoring Collins Hill\'s 4x100 team to a 2nd place finsih behind Norcross. Jackie Drouin took the top spot in the 1600 and 3200m runs with an impressive double of 4:58.09 and 10:56.75. Her performance in both events was spurred by the outstanding perfromance of Jennifer Barbi who had an impressive 5:03 and 11:06 double of her own to take 2nd in both events.
Swainsboro narrowly edged Claxton HS in region action on Thursday, 78-76/ They accomplished this despite winning only 2 events in the running finals on Thursday. Brandon Wright advances to state with his win in the 800m in 2:03 and the 4x100 team also advances to state with a 42.38 showing. Dwight Smith advances with a heave of 49\'7\" in the shot put for the top spot and he will also compete in the discus after placing 2nd behind Devn McClain of Claxton as both throwers broke 135\'.
Despite not scoring in the 100m, 200m, or 400m, Blessed Trinity found a way to do what some might have thought impossible. In the latest team rankings, Therrell rated a number 3 state ranking while Blessed Trinity came in tied for 21st. After Brittany Long\'s amazing 100-200 double in 11.67 and 23.96, things appeared to be going Therrells way. A lot of attention was paid to the 300m hurdle race in 5-AAA but little did anyone know that it would play such a big part in the team title picture. Caroline Vaughn needed a big race in order to qualify for state, matched up against the powerful Jasmine Dacus of Westlake and Quaneshia Cleckley, of Therrell. These three young ladies represent the best in long hurdles in the state of Georgia and they did not disappoint on Monday night.
Wondergirl does it again! Brittany Hall posted an eye opening 2:09 in the prelims of the Region 8-AAAAA meet on Saturday but the young runner from Meadowcreek wasn\'t done. She followed that up with a blistering 2:08.99 for number 3 all time in the state.
The race for state has started as region meets are taking place around the state. Unbelievable performances abound as the ladies have taken things to a new level in virtually every event. The performers list for the McEachern Invitational was filled with top flight performers and those athletes did not disappoint in an amazing day of track and field at McEachern. Leading the way were the 400m girls as Joanna Atkins of Stephenson wins in 54.25 with Jasmine Dacus of Westlake at 54.75. How many meets can say you run 56.16 and you get 3rd? On the boys side, the boys 800 saw Rick Scheff of St. Pius pull away from a fast field in a Georgia season best 1:52.22. As for relays, the McEachern DMR team ran Georgia\'s #5 all time winning in 10:19.52 in some serious winds.to win by almost 40 seconds.
