WRIX Hosting Track and Field Radio Show

103.1 FM, WRIX, broadcasting out of Anderson is hosting a 30-minute track and field show once a week. The show is in its second week and is going on this evening at 8:30 p.m. Tonight's guests, the regular day of the show with host Terry Wyatt, a volunteer coach at Crescent High School (2A) is Westside Head Coach Rod Cowan and Blue Ridge Head Coach David Smith. Westside is a 4A school and Blue Ridge is a 2A school.

Westside boys hurdle relay team set a 4x55 Nike Indoor Championships record of 29.45 on Saturday in Landover, MD. Brandon Brown, Dennis Martin, Martez Brown and Mauricus Brown made up the relay team. The previous record was 30.20, set in 2002 by Wayne High School of Huber Heights, OH.

Former Blue Ridge Tiger track and field athlete Brittany Whitaker, now at Western Carolina finished third in the high jump at the Southern Conference Championships, making the All-Conference Team.

The show is typically aired on Tuesday evenings at 8:30. The show time and date may change because of track and field meets.

Next week Clemson Men's Track and Field Coach Bob Pollock is making an appearance. Clemson University recently hosted the ACC Championships in the university's new indoor facility. The facility opened up on Dec. 5, 2003 with the Clemson Opener. Clemson hosted a high school indoor invitational on Jan. 31.

The listening area for WRIX covers Abbeville County, Anderson County, Greenville County, Oconee County, along with reaching into areas of Ga. According to Wyatt the listening audience is made up of places as far away as Laurens, Spartanburg and Woodruff.

AgSouth Farm Credit, Wyatt's employer sponsors the show. Wyatt mentioned he wants this show to heighten the awareness of the sport. Wyatt is a former University of California-Poly sprinter and decathlete in the early 1980s. Wyatt's two sons are members of Crescent's track and field team.

The show started by covering wrestling, as a community service and Wyatt hopes to have shows throughout this season and the upcoming cross-country season.

The outdoor season resumes on March 20 with the Bruins Invitational, Clemson Relays and Father Kelly Classic.
