Overall State Rankings
1. Trevor Beesley, Jr., Greenwood- Had the 4a state cross country meet locked up until he fell close to the finish and didn't get back up in time. Ran a 15:52 at the Michelin Midnight Flight.
2. Jake Morris, Jr., Aiken- Shocked the state when he won the Eye-Opener against all the top competition in the state except for Beesley. Very much on the rise and has shown he is ready for the big boys.
3. Steve Boyd, Sr., Summerville- Defending 4a 3200m state champ and is a heavy favorite to take the individual title.
4. Tommy Hunt, Jr, Spartanburg- Finished just behind Boyd at Eye-Opener in his first real race in nearly 10 months. Should improve greatly once he gets some of the rust off.
5. Fred Smith, Sr., Sumter- Finished 7th at the 4a state meet in 2001 in his first season of cross country. Went on to run a 9:45 at state in the 3200m after running the 1600m earlier that day.
6. Brian Raymond, Jr., Spring Valley- Finished 6th at the 4a state meet in 2001. Went on to run 4:26 and 9:51 on the track in the spring.
7. Jacob McCaskill, Sr., Riverside- Was the fastest finisher at the 2001 state cross country meet regardless of classification with a 16:07. Went on to run a 4:26 to win the 3a 1600m after winning the 4x800m as well.
8. Brian Jank, Jr., Dorman- Did not finish the 2001 state meet due to heat exhauston. Ran a 9:51 3200m on the track this spring and has been impressive in his early season showings so far.
9. Donald Stouffer, Sr., North Myrtle Beach- Ran a 17:15 to finish 8th in the 2a-1a state meet. Ran a 4:33 1600m to P.R. in the 3a state meet finishing 4th in the process. Should give McCaskill a run for the 3a individual title.
10. Matt Creggar, Sr., Chapin- Has a cross country P.R. of 16:21 and ran a 9:56 3200m in the spring along with a 33:47 10k at Cooper River. Finished just behind Stouffer and McCaskill at Eye-Opener.
