Greenville High alumna Lauren Paige, 21, a former USC runner, and high school cross country state champion finished 297th overall, 23rd in her gender and third in her division earlier today at the Marine Corps Marathon. Paige covered the 26.2 mile course in 3:13.18. This was Paige's first marathon.
General comments on the marathon:
"It was awesome."
Training:
"I definitely trained hard and was very prepared, but I heard all of these horror stories and I was prepared for the worst."
"I got up to 70 (miles per week) and came back down (in mileage) the last couple of weeks."
"19 (miles) was my longest (run)."
The Marathon:
"My last 10k was around 42 minutes and my last 5k was around 20:30."
"I wasn't even running that fast at USC in some races."
"Luckily I had no problems what so ever."
Future Plans:
"Well, I qualified for Boston so I will take that bid in (April) 2007, but I'm going to stick with some 5k's and 10k's for a while."
