NFHS Honors Riverside's Eric Cummings

Riverside coach Eric Cummings joined 23 high school coaches around the country as 2017 National Coach of the Year for boys cross country (2016-2017) by the National Federation of State High School Coaches Association.

"
This was completely unexpected," said Cummings. "Prior to yesterday, I did not even know I was up for this award. This is an honor that should be credited to my runners (Ben Cignarale, Neel Taber, William Kennedy, Andrew Castano, Harper Harris, Marlin Young, and Spenser Schwalm) along with their parents and all the teachers and admin at Riverside High School. Our program is where it is at due to the support of my coworkers and especially my assistant coaches Heather Greene and Todd Lea. I am blessed to have the support of my wife Karen and three boys, who sacrifices a lot to allow me to do what I love. This honor is a reflection of the amount of time and sweat I have put into this sport over the past 20 plus years. I feel truly honored to be named the NFHS National Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year. It is very surreal!"
