Philip Simmons captured the 3A girls cross country state championship with a 42-52 victory against defending champion Waccamaw earlier this month at Clemson Sandhills Research Center in Columbia.
Philip Simmons was led by junior Josie May with a fourth-place finish (20:12.33). It had four of the top 10 runners. Daniel, last year's runner-up, finished third (71), followed by Hanahan (192) and Travelers Rest (198). Daniel sophomore Ashby Williams won individual medalist with a time of 19:15.59.
Waccamaw was led by last year's champion Anna Margaret Loftus, who finished as runner-up with a time of 19:20.15.
Dreher topped Powdersville 67-77 to claim the boys team title.
Dreher was led by individual medalist senior Sam Kolowith with a time of 15:52.94. Senior Liam Jones also placed in the top 10 finishing fourth (16:58.52).
