Watch 2023 Eye Opener college cross country races



The Furman men's and women's cross country teams have been picked to win their 12th-straight Southern Conference cross country crowns in preseason balloting conducted by the league's ten head coaches, who could not vote for their own teams.

The Paladin women, who own the longest active conference winning streak in the nation on the women's side, received nine first-place votes in the poll, totaling 81 points.  The Furman men also claimed nine first place votes and a total of 81 points after setting the league record for consecutive team titles last season.

South Carolina has officially announced the 2024 Cross Country slate on Tuesday, revealing the seven-meet slate. "I am tremendously excited for the cross country season," stated Head Coach Tim Hall. "Coach Brock has amassed a young group of talented freshmen to work alongside our returners. The schedule allows our young people the opportunity to develop race strategies prior to SEC competition. We can't wait to see our team in action!"

College of Charleston will compete in seven cross country meets this fall including two each at Rock Hill, S.C., and Elon, N.C. 

"This fall's schedule is aimed at preparing us for success during the championship portion of the season," said Chris Bailey. "We look forward to previewing the conference and regional courses during the regular season. 
"After our opener at CSU, we will move up to 6K for the women and 8K for the men to begin preparing for those race distances at CAAs."

The South Carolina State men's and women's cross-country teams will compete in four regular season meets over the next two months of the season in in preparation for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships and possibly NCAA postseason competition.

The South Atlantic Conference released the Men's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll on Wednesday, naming the Anderson Trojans third to enter the season. "It's an honor to be ranked third in the SAC for the preseason poll," said Head Cross Country Coach, Kevin Eagle. "As a group, we have big goals and we know that the SAC is the toughest conference in the region."

Anderson's women's cross country team secured a third-place spot on the South Atlantic Conference Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league on Wednesday. "The SAC is an extremely tough conference," said Head Cross Country Coach, Kevin Eagle, "and it shows by how close the top-half of these rankings are."

The South Atlantic Conference (SAC) releases its 2024 men's cross country coaches' preseason poll today (Aug. 21) with Newberry being tied for tenth place with Limestone University. The Wolves are led by third-year Head Coach Scott Hutchinson, and look to open the season with their first meet being the Bruins Night Classic away at Bob Jones University on Friday, Sept 6.
